What this dataset is
Curated catalog of Amazon AU appliances featured as editorial picks on NestPath's homeowner hub. Each row pairs an Amazon AU product (ASIN, title, brand, price, availability, rating, review count) with NestPath's editorial layer (pick role, room category, article slug, last-verified date, editorial note). The grain is one row per editorial pick, not one row per product: a product recommended in two guides appears twice, so count distinct ASINs rather than rows to size the product set.
Most Amazon product datasets are scraped catalog dumps: they capture what exists on the marketplace. This dataset captures something different, what editorial reviewers actually recommend in 2026. Every row is a product NestPath's editors have specifically assigned a role in one of 850 Australian buying guides, whether that is the top pick, the runner-up, the budget pick, an also-great alternative, or a product covered but not recommended. That editorial-curation layer is the differentiator no scraped catalog provides.
Grain: One row per editorial pick, not per product. A product recommended in more than one guide has one row per guide, so ASINs repeat by design. Use distinct_asins (or COUNT DISTINCT asin) to size the product set and row_count to size the recommendation set.
Update cadence: manual quarterly refresh. The current version was generated 8 August 2026.

Columns (18)
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| asin | Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) — 10-char product identifier |
| title | Product title as listed on Amazon AU |
| brand | Brand name (e.g. Philips, Sunbeam, Crockpot) |
| manufacturer | Manufacturer name (often same as brand) |
| price_aud | Price in AUD at last fetch (numeric, 2 decimals) |
| currency | Price currency (always AUD for this dataset) |
| availability | Availability state at last fetch: "In stock", "Low stock", "Currently unavailable", or "Pre-order / lead time". Blank where the Amazon AU snapshot carried no availability signal (2 rows in this build) |
| star_rating | Customer rating on Amazon AU, 1.0–5.0 (1 decimal) |
| review_count | Number of Amazon AU customer reviews at last fetch |
| primary_category | Room category the pick's guide belongs to, from NestPath's hub taxonomy. A controlled vocabulary of 15 values: Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathroom, Personal Care, Laundry, Lounge, Outdoor, Smart Home, Home Office, Garage & Tools, Health & Fitness, Baby & Kids, Pets, Wardrobe, Gift Guides. Derived from the article, not from Amazon: guides filed in more than one room take the first (primary) room |
| nestpath_article | Canonical URL of the NestPath hub article featuring this pick |
| nestpath_article_slug | Hub article slug (e.g. best-microwave-australia) |
| pick_role | Editorial role the pick plays in its guide. One of five values: 'top_pick' (the guide's overall recommendation), 'runner_up' (closest alternative to the top pick), 'budget_pick' (cheapest option the editor still recommends), 'also_great' (additional recommendation that wins for a specific need), 'the_competition' (considered and covered in the guide, but not recommended) |
| pick_position | Ordinal position of the pick within its guide, ascending. Indexing is not uniform across guides: most start at 1, a minority start at 0, and the observed range is 0 to 10. Sort by this within nestpath_article_slug to recover the editor's running order; do not read it as an absolute rank or assume a fixed base |
| editorial_note | Optional editorial annotation for the pick |
| amazon_url | Direct Amazon AU product page URL |
| last_verified_at | When NestPath last verified this pick is current (ISO 8601 timestamp) |
| amazon_last_fetched_at | When the Amazon AU snapshot was last refreshed (ISO 8601 timestamp) |

Use cases
- Researchers and journalists: empirical AU appliance market analysis, brand concentration, price bands by category, availability trends. Cite NestPath as source.
- Developers: bootstrap a comparison-shopping tool, price-tracking app, or affiliate aggregator. CSV ready for SQLite, DuckDB, pandas or R.
- Procurement teams: AU office, strata or hospitality buying decisions across 850 buying guides in 15 room categories.
- AI and LLM developers: ground-truth Australian appliance knowledge for retrieval-augmented generation. Editorial pick-role and verified-date metadata exceeds what scraped catalogs provide.
What this dataset is not
This is not a complete Amazon AU catalog: it covers only products NestPath editors have featured as picks in one of 850 buying guides on the NestPath homeowner hub. Brands and categories that are not represented on Amazon AU (or that NestPath has not covered yet) will not appear here. Notable structural absences we have documented in our editorial guides include Breville slow cookers, Magimix food processors, Sheridan bedding, premium standing desks (Desky, UpDown, Omnidesk), Samsung 4K TVs, and Optimum blenders, all AU buyer favourites that distribute through Myer, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys or specialty retailers rather than Amazon AU.
Prices and availability are accurate as of the last fetch timestamp on each row, refreshed manually each quarter. For real-time prices, follow the amazon_url column to Amazon AU directly.
Methodology
Every row is sourced from NestPath's editorial pick infrastructure: the post_product_references table joined with the amazon_products table in our Supabase Postgres. The Amazon AU data is pulled via the Amazon Creators API and the Product Advertising API at fetch time; editorial pick-role (top_pick, runner_up, budget_pick, also_great, the_competition) is set by human editors during the article review process. The primary_category column is NestPath's own room taxonomy, derived from the guide the pick appears in, not an Amazon breadcrumb.
Each pick is re-verified before quarterly export, see the last_verified_at column. Picks that have gone out of stock or had a brand change are flagged via the editorial_note column.
Editorial principles: numeric specs (wattage, capacity, dimensions) are copy-verified against the retailer-listed product title. Affiliate links in the source amazon_url use NestPath's nestpath-22 Amazon Associates tag; researchers using the dataset are welcome to strip the tag.
