Best Cocktail Glasses in Australia (2026): 7 Sets Worth Buying

Martini, coupe, margarita, hurricane and rocks glasses are not interchangeable, and the shape you pick decides whether the set gets used or stored. We compared seven in-stock Amazon Australia sets on capacity, set size, material and dishwasher status, with a coupe as the one-shape answer.

Why do cocktail glasses feel like such a gamble to buy?

Because the word covers at least five different shapes, and the listing photos flatter every one of them. A martini glass, a coupe, a margarita glass, a hurricane and a rocks glass are not interchangeable, they store differently in a standard Australian kitchen cupboard, and the set that looks perfect on a bar cart is often the one that snaps a stem the first time it goes through a dishwasher basket.

To keep the scope clear: this guide covers the glasses you serve a cocktail in. Wine glasses are handled separately in our wine glasses guide, beer glasses in the beer glasses guide, and the shakers, jiggers and strainers that make the drink live in the cocktail shaker set guide. No product appears in more than one of those four pages.

What are the best cocktail glasses in Australia right now?

If you want one answer and no reading: buy a coupe set. The True Coupe Glass Set of 4 is our top pick because a 207ml coupe handles a margarita, a daiquiri, a manhattan, an espresso martini and a champagne pour without you owning five different shapes. It is also the most reviewed stemmed set we looked at on Amazon Australia, and it is listed as both dishwasher safe and freezer safe, which matters more than it sounds.

If you host bigger and want six glasses rather than four, the LAV Misket Margarita Glasses Set of 6 is the runner-up. Six European-made 300ml bowls, a soft-rolled rim, and enough room for a frozen margarita or a cosmopolitan without the drink sloshing over the lip when someone carries it across the room.

If you want the cheapest sensible entry, the Maxwell and Williams Speakeasy Martini Glass Set of 4 is the budget pick and, at 4.9 stars, the highest-rated set on this page. It is a gift-boxed faceted 180ml martini from a brand most Australians already know from Myer and David Jones, and it is the cheapest of our seven picks.

How do the seven sets compare at a glance?

Prices move daily, so treat the last column as a starting point and let the product cards carry the live figure. Capacity is the single number most people get wrong, so it sits front and centre.

How did NestPath choose these sets?

NestPath is a research desk, not a bar. We do not pour drinks for a living, so instead of pretending otherwise we read the listings, the specifications and the review bodies, and we check the numbers on the day we publish.

  • Every set had to be a cocktail glass sold as a set, in stock on Amazon Australia, with its price, brand and availability pulled fresh from Amazon on the day of writing.
  • Star ratings and review counts come from Amazon Australia listing data, and no set with a thin review history became a headline pick.
  • Capacity, material, dishwasher status and set size are taken only from what the manufacturer actually lists, never inferred from a photograph.
  • We cross-checked the Australian search results and retail category pages to make sure the shapes people are actually shopping for are all represented here.

Which cocktail glass should you buy if you only buy one shape?

The True Coupe Glass set. A coupe is the most forgiving shape in cocktail glassware: the wide shallow bowl shows off the colour of the drink, the shorter stem is far less likely to snap than a tall martini stem, and the shape suits both shaken sours and stirred spirit-forward drinks. True lists this set at 7 oz, which works out to 207ml, in a set of four.

4.5(1,233)

A 207ml coupe is the most forgiving shape in cocktail glassware: the shallow rounded bowl shows off the drink, the short stem survives real life far better than a tall martini stem, and it stacks into a cupboard without eating shelf width. It covers margaritas, daiquiris, manhattans, espresso martinis and even a prosecco pour, so you can own one shape instead of five. It is also the most reviewed stemmed set we looked at on Amazon Australia and is listed as both dishwasher safe and freezer safe.

The practical case is stronger than the aesthetic one. Coupes stack into a standard cupboard more sensibly than a martini glass, whose wide V bowl eats shelf width and knocks against its neighbours. The listing describes the shape as suited to manhattans, daiquiris and margaritas, and it works for espresso martinis too, which is the drink most Australian home bars actually make. If someone hands you a bottle of prosecco, a coupe is the traditional glass for that as well.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

A 207ml coupe is on the small side if you like a long drink. It will not hold a mojito or a gin and tonic with ice, so this is a serve glass rather than an everything glass. The shallow bowl is also the shape that spills most readily when carried, which is a known coupe trait rather than a fault of this particular set. And four glasses in a box means a second purchase if you have a full table.

What if you host six people and make frozen drinks?

Then the LAV Misket Margarita set is the better buy. It is six glasses rather than four, the bowl is 300ml rather than 207ml, and the two-tier bowl shape is the classic margarita silhouette that holds a frozen drink without it collapsing over the rim.

Six glasses rather than four, a 300ml bowl rather than 207ml, and the classic two-tier margarita silhouette that holds a frozen drink without it collapsing over the rim. LAV is a Turkish glassmaker with European production and the listing calls out soft-rolled rims, which is the detail that separates a glass that feels pleasant to drink from one that feels like a cheap tumbler. The recommended uses run well past margaritas, so in practice it is a general-purpose party glass with a margarita profile.

LAV is a Turkish glassmaker with European production, and the listing calls out soft-rolled rims, which is the detail that separates a glass that feels pleasant to drink from one that feels like a cheap tumbler. The specification sheet lists it as dishwasher safe, and the recommended uses run well past margaritas: cosmopolitans, martinis, mojitos and pina coladas are all named. In practice it is a general-purpose party glass with a margarita profile.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

The long stem is the weak point. A 16.8cm glass with a narrow stem is the classic dishwasher casualty, and it needs the top rack with space around it. The wide two-tier bowl also takes more cupboard width than a coupe, so six of them occupy a real chunk of a shelf. And the shape is unmistakably a margarita glass, so if you want something that reads as neutral at a dinner party, look at the coupe or the martini instead.

What is the cheapest cocktail glass set worth owning?

It is the cheapest of our seven picks and the highest-rated set on this page at 4.9 stars, and it comes from a brand that has been in Australian department stores for decades. The faceted contemporary art deco surface does the useful job of hiding fingerprints and water spots that plain glass shows immediately, and 180ml is a properly sized martini rather than an oversized bowl. Because Maxwell and Williams is stocked through Myer, David Jones and Peter's of Kensington as well as Amazon, a breakage in two years is a replacement rather than a whole new set.

The design is contemporary art deco: a faceted, cut-glass surface on a classic martini bowl, four glasses to a box, 180ml each. Maxwell and Williams describes the inspiration as European cut glass, and the faceting does the useful job of hiding fingerprints and water spots, which plain glass shows immediately. The specification lists it as glass and dishwasher safe.

The catch with cheap glassware is usually the brand disappearing, and that is the specific reason to prefer this one. Maxwell and Williams is stocked through Myer, David Jones and Peter's of Kensington as well as Amazon, so if you break one in two years you can probably replace it rather than starting again with a mismatched set. For a first flat or a first home, buying the recognisable brand at the low end is the smarter version of buying cheap.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

Its review history is short. Ten reviews is enough to suggest people like it and not enough to be statistically interesting, so the 4.9-star average should be read as encouraging rather than proven. The martini shape is also the least forgiving to carry and the most awkward to store, and the faceted surface means you cannot see the drink quite as clearly as through plain glass.

What should you buy for pina coladas and tall tropical drinks?

The LAV Fiesta Pina Colada set. At 390ml it is the largest-capacity set of our picks, and it is the only hurricane shape among our picks, built to take a serious amount of crushed ice without the drink hitting the rim.

The hurricane set for tropical drinks. At 390ml it is the largest-capacity set of our picks and the only hurricane shape here, with a tall curved bowl on a short stem that leaves room for crushed ice, fruit and a straw. LAV lists a six-piece set with a polished transition from bowl to stem. At 7.5cm wide by 18cm high it needs a shelf that can take it upright. Note the listing contradicts itself on dishwasher safety, and a tall curved stem is worth hand washing regardless.

The hurricane shape exists for a reason: a tall curved bowl on a short stem gives you room for ice, fruit and a straw while keeping the whole thing stable enough to sit on an outdoor table. LAV lists this as a six-piece set with a curved stem and a polished transition from bowl to stem, which is the join that usually feels rough on cheap stemware. Dimensions are 7.5cm wide by 18cm high, so it needs a shelf that can take it upright.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

The listing contradicts itself on dishwasher safety: the care instruction field says dishwasher safe while a separate specification field says it is not. We would hand wash a tall curved stem like this one regardless, but it is worth knowing the listing is inconsistent before you buy. At 18cm tall it also will not fit under a low cupboard shelf, and 390ml of drink plus ice is heavy enough that the short stem needs a firm grip.

Which glass suits an old fashioned or a negroni?

The JoyJolt Faye lowball set, which is the only stemless pick on this page. A double old fashioned is served short, over a large cube, and it wants weight in the base rather than a stem.

4.6(6,158)

The rocks glass, and the only stemless pick on this page. JoyJolt lists these as hand-made lead-free crystal at 10 oz, which is about 295ml, in a set of six with a heavy base that keeps the glass planted while you stir and slows warming from your hand. It is the right shape for an old fashioned or a negroni over one large cube, and with more than six thousand ratings behind it at 4.6 stars it is by a long way the most reviewed set here. Crystal does scratch more readily than soda-lime glass.

JoyJolt lists these as hand-made lead-free crystal, 10 oz, which is about 295ml, in a set of six with a heavy base. The heavy base is the functional part: it keeps the glass planted while you stir, it slows down warming from your hand, and it feels considerably better than a thin-walled tumbler when a single large ice cube goes in. The listing states the set is dishwasher safe.

With more than six thousand ratings behind it this is by a very long way the most reviewed set on this page, and that volume of feedback at 4.6 stars is the closest thing to a safe purchase in a category full of unknowns. If you are building a home bar from nothing and can only buy two sets, a coupe and a rocks glass covers close to every drink you will actually make.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

Crystal is softer than soda-lime glass and scratches more readily, so these will show wear faster than a cheap tumbler if you are careless with cutlery in the sink. Six heavy-based glasses are also noticeably weighty as a boxed purchase, and a lowball is the wrong glass for anything served up, so it does not replace a coupe or a martini. It is also among the dearer sets here.

What if you want six martini glasses rather than four?

Krosno Avant-Garde. Most martini sets ship in fours, which is fine until you have six people and two of them are drinking out of wine glasses. This is a six-glass box at 240ml per glass.

Most martini sets ship in fours, which is fine until you have six people. This is a six-glass box at 240ml, from a Polish glassmaker with real name recognition in Australia through Peter's of Kensington and department store stemware ranges. At 11.6cm wide the bowls need real shelf space, and the review history is thinner than we would like.

Krosno is a Polish glassmaker with a long history and reasonable name recognition in Australia through Peter's of Kensington and department store stemware ranges. The Avant-Garde line is a clean, unfussy martini profile with no cutting or faceting, listed as dishwasher safe and recyclable, and it arrives gift boxed, which makes it a straightforward wedding or housewarming present as well as a purchase for yourself.

At 240ml this is a larger martini bowl than the Maxwell and Williams set, which suits people who serve a slightly longer drink or who want room for ice-free dilution without filling to the brim. Dimensions are 11.6cm wide by 16.7cm high, and the width is the number to check: a wide martini bowl is the single greediest shape in a kitchen cupboard, and six of them side by side need real shelf space.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

The review history here is thin, so there is less crowd evidence behind the 4.7-star average than we would like. The plain profile is also genuinely plain, which is a virtue if you want neutral stemware and a disappointment if you wanted the glass to be the centrepiece. And a 240ml martini bowl carried across a room full of people is a spill waiting for an excuse.

A Nick and Nora is a small stemmed glass with a rounded bowl, named after the cocktail-drinking couple in The Thin Man, and it has become the bartender's preferred glass for stirred spirit-forward drinks. This version is ribbed art deco crystal, 150ml, in a set of four, and at 150ml it is the smallest-capacity set of our picks. That is deliberate: a Nick and Nora is designed for a drink you finish while it is still cold.

The ribbing is the point. It catches light, it hides fingerprints, and it makes an ordinary negroni or manhattan look like it came from somewhere with a menu. The listing specifies dishwasher safe, with dimensions of 7.6cm wide by 15cm high and a listed weight of about 142 grams per glass, which is substantial for a small stemmed glass.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

150ml is small, and if your idea of a cocktail is a generous pour you will find yourself refilling. The narrow stem on a ribbed bowl is also the combination we would hand wash by choice regardless of the dishwasher rating. And this is the dearest box on this page for only four glasses, which only makes sense if the look is what you are buying.

What should you look for in a cocktail glass?

Shape first, capacity second, everything else third. Get those two right and the rest is preference.

Martini versus coupe versus margarita versus hurricane versus rocks. A martini glass is the wide V on a long stem: dramatic, spill-prone, and best at 180ml to 240ml. A coupe is the shallow rounded bowl on a shorter stem: the most versatile shape in the category, good for anything served up, and less fragile. A margarita glass is the two-tier bowl, built for frozen drinks and a salt rim, usually 250ml to 350ml. A hurricane is the tall curved bowl for pina coladas and anything with a lot of crushed ice, usually 350ml and up. A rocks or old fashioned glass is the short heavy tumbler for spirits over ice. If you are buying one set, buy the coupe. If you are buying two, add rocks glasses.

Crystal versus soda-lime glass. Modern crystal is lead-free and gets its clarity and weight from other minerals. It is clearer, it can be blown thinner, and a lead-free crystal glass usually feels better in the hand. It is also softer, so it scratches and chips more easily, and it costs more. Soda-lime glass is the ordinary, tougher, cheaper option and is what most six-packs are made from. For a first home, soda-lime for the everyday set and crystal for the one nice set is a sane split. Only trust the label the manufacturer actually prints: plenty of listings use the word crystal loosely.

Capacity, in millilitres, not adjectives. The useful range for cocktail glassware runs from about 150ml to about 390ml. Under 200ml is a serve glass for spirit-forward drinks you finish cold. Around 200ml to 260ml is the general-purpose zone for coupes and martinis. Above 300ml you are into margarita and hurricane territory for long, iced drinks. Listings love vague words like large, so find the number.

Set size and storage. Four or six is the real choice. Six covers a dinner party but takes roughly half a cupboard shelf in wide-bowl shapes. Measure your shelf height before you buy anything over 16cm tall, because a set that has to lie on its side is a set you stop using. Two boxes of four in different shapes beats one box of eight in a shape you only half like.

Dishwasher safety, read literally. Do not assume. Check the listing's care instruction field, and note that some listings contradict themselves across fields. Even on a dishwasher-safe set, tall thin stems in a crowded basket break from knocking against other items rather than from the water.

If you are furnishing a kitchen from scratch, our kitchen essentials guide covers the order to buy things in so glassware does not swallow a budget that should be going on cookware.

How do you look after cocktail glasses so they last?

Hand wash anything with a long thin stem, and load everything else on the top rack with space around it. Most cocktail glassware does not die from being washed, it dies from touching another glass while it is being washed.

Wash by hand in warm water with a soft cloth or a dedicated glass brush, and never hold a stemmed glass by the bowl while you twist the base, which is the single most common way people snap a stem at the sink. Rinse in the hottest water you can stand and let the glasses drain upside down on a soft mat rather than a hard metal rack, which chips rims.

Avoid two things outright: sudden temperature change, which cracks glass, and abrasive scourers, which permanently haze both crystal and soda-lime. Store stemware upright where the shelf allows, since resting on the rim is what chips it. If you chill glasses in the freezer, check the listing says freezer safe first.

You'll also want

Glasses are half the setup. These are the items that turn a set of glasses into something you actually use, and each one is a live Amazon Australia listing.

If your entertaining runs to punches and batched drinks rather than individual serves, our drink dispenser guide is the companion purchase.

What did not make the cut?

A few genuinely good sets missed out, and a few whole categories did.

Bormioli Rocco Bartender Novecento Nick and Nora, set of four. An excellent Italian glass with a one-piece pulled stem and a laser-cut rim, lead-free and dishwasher safe. It lost its place only because we already had a Nick and Nora on the page and two of the same shape would waste a slot. If you want that shape in plain glass rather than ribbed art deco, this is the one to look at.

The premium stemware tier, which mostly is not on Amazon Australia. This is the honest limitation of an Amazon-based guide. Riedel, and much of the Maxwell and Williams and Krosno ranges, sell primarily through Peter's of Kensington, Myer and David Jones, and the top of the crystal stemware market barely appears on Amazon Australia at all. If you are shopping above the range covered here, those retailers are where to look, and the shape and capacity advice on this page still applies.

Cocktail glasses FAQ

What is the best all-round cocktail glass?

A coupe. The shallow rounded bowl on a short stem suits anything served up, including martinis, manhattans, daiquiris, margaritas and espresso martinis, and it doubles as a champagne glass. The short stem is also far less fragile than a tall martini stem and the shape stores more efficiently in a standard cupboard. If you are only buying one shape, buy a coupe in the 200ml to 250ml range.

What is the difference between a martini glass and a coupe?

A martini glass has a wide straight-sided V-shaped bowl on a long stem, while a coupe has a shallow rounded bowl on a shorter stem. Both are used for drinks served up, without ice. The martini is more dramatic and more likely to spill when carried, and its wide bowl takes up more shelf width. The coupe holds a similar volume in a more stable shape and is the more practical everyday choice.

Are crystal cocktail glasses better than ordinary glass?

Crystal is clearer, can be made thinner and generally feels better in the hand, and modern crystal is lead-free. Ordinary soda-lime glass is tougher, cheaper and more resistant to scratching and chipping. Neither is better in every situation. For a first home, a practical split is soda-lime for the everyday set that gets handed to guests, and one crystal set for occasions.

Can you put cocktail glasses in the dishwasher?

Only if the listing says dishwasher safe, and even then load them on the top rack with space around each glass. Most breakages happen because glasses knock into each other during the cycle, not because of the water or the detergent. Tall thin stems are the most vulnerable, so hand washing anything above about 16cm is the safer habit regardless of the rating.

How many cocktail glasses do you need at home?

Four to six of one versatile shape covers almost everything a household actually does. Six suits a dinner party without borrowing wine glasses, and four is enough for a couple who host occasionally. Two sets in different shapes, such as a coupe and a rocks glass, is more useful than one set of eight in a shape you only half like.

What else should you set up for entertaining?

Cocktail glasses are one piece of a hosting kit. These guides cover the rest of it.

LAV Fiesta Pina Colada Glasses Set of 6-390ml Hurricane Cocktail Glasses for Tropical Drinks, Daiquiris & Margaritas - Elegant Curved Stem Design - Durable Dishwasher Safe

4.6(415)

The hurricane set for tropical drinks. At 390ml it is the largest-capacity set of our picks and the only hurricane shape here, with a tall curved bowl on a short stem that leaves room for crushed ice, fruit and a straw. LAV lists a six-piece set with a polished transition from bowl to stem. At 7.5cm wide by 18cm high it needs a shelf that can take it upright. Note the listing contradicts itself on dishwasher safety, and a tall curved stem is worth hand washing regardless.

JoyJolt Faye Crystal Whiskey Lowball Glasses Set of 6, 10oz Hand Made Short Glass Tumbler with Heavy Base. Double Old Fashioned Rocks Glass for Scotch or Bourbon Dishwasher Safe Glassware.

Krosno Avant-Garde Martini Glass 240ML Set of 6 Gift Boxed KR0312

4.7(19)

Most martini sets ship in fours, which is fine until you have six people. This is a six-glass box at 240ml, from a Polish glassmaker with real name recognition in Australia through Peter's of Kensington and department store stemware ranges. The Avant-Garde profile is clean and unfussy with no cutting or faceting, listed as dishwasher safe and recyclable, and it arrives gift boxed. At 11.6cm wide the bowls need real shelf space, and the review history is thinner than we would like.

GLASSIQUE CADEAU Vintage Art Deco Nick Nora Coupe Glasses | Set of 4 | 150 ml Crystal Ribbed Retro Cocktail Glasses with Stem for Classic Gin Cocktails

4.6(195)

The gift and statement set, and the dearest on this page. A Nick and Nora is a small stemmed glass with a rounded bowl that has become the bartender's preferred serve for stirred spirit-forward drinks, and this ribbed art deco version at 150ml is the smallest-capacity set of our picks by design: it is built for a drink you finish while it is still cold. The ribbing catches light and hides fingerprints, and the listing specifies dishwasher safe with a substantial 142 grams per glass.
