## A robot vacuum-mop does both jobs in one run
The whole appeal of a robot mop is that it is not only a mop. Every machine in this guide is a robot vacuum first and a mop second, running both in a single pass - it sucks up the dust and crumbs, then drags or scrubs a damp cloth over the same floor. That is what separates this category from a plain robot vacuum, which we cover in a separate guide. If you only ever wanted dry floors picked up, you would not pay for the water tanks, the pads and the washing docks that these models carry.
The trade-off is that doing both jobs well is harder than doing one. A cheap combo like the ECOVACS DEEBOT N20 at ~$284 vacuums genuinely well but only wipes - the mopping is a light freshen-up, not a deep clean. On a budget unit, you finish a run and then you go and rinse a filthy mop pad in the sink yourself - which, in practice, means you stop bothering to mop. A self-cleaning dock removes that chore entirely. ## Lidar mapping and obstacle avoidance keep it tidy
A robot that cleans in random zig-zags misses patches and bumps your furniture. Every model here uses lidar - a spinning laser that builds an accurate floor plan - so it cleans in straight, methodical rows and knows where it has already been. The DEEBOT N20 maps a typical home in about eight minutes with its TrueMapping system, and that same lidar is what lets the app draw your rooms.
Obstacle avoidance is the second half. The cheaper models steer around walls and furniture but can still nudge a charging cable. Step up to the T30S Pro and you get AIVI 3D camera-based avoidance, and the X11 Pro Omni and Qrevo Curv 2 identify hundreds of object types so they thread around cords, shoes and pet bowls without getting tangled or stuck. ## Suction in Pa is the vacuum side, and it matters on carpet

Treat the headline Pa figure as a ceiling rather than a constant - these robots run lower power modes most of the time and only ramp up when they detect carpet. But a higher ceiling means more reserve for the hard jobs, so if you have a lot of carpet, do not buy at the bottom of the suction range.
## App zones, no-go lines and scheduling
Once the robot has its lidar map, the app is where you make it fit your home. You draw no-go lines around the dog's water bowl or a tangle of cables, set the kitchen to a heavier mop pass than the bedrooms, and schedule a vacuum for while you are at work.
