Seven plastic drawer units and towers compared on the numbers that actually matter: external width, depth, height, drawer count and the plastic they are moulded from.
Prices checked 2 September 2026 on Amazon AU and subject to change.
Plastic drawers are what you buy when the wardrobe came with one shelf and a hanging rail, and everything else has to live somewhere. They are cheap, they stack, they slide into gaps a chest of drawers would never fit, and on moving day they come apart in a minute. The catch is that the category is barely labelled: a listing shouts four tiers and 40 litres and never gives the external width, which is the number that decides whether it fits beside the washing machine.
So this guide is built around measurements. Every unit below is a plastic drawer unit or tower in the three to seven drawer range, and for each one we give the external width, depth and height in centimetres, the drawer count and the plastic it is moulded from. If you have a 20cm gap, you will know in ten seconds which of these fits it.
What are the best plastic drawers in Australia?
For most Australian homes the answer is the HOTOOLME 4 Pack Stackable Wardrobe Storage Organiser, because the problem most people are solving is a bare wardrobe shelf, and four stackable pull-out boxes at 42.8 x 33 x 24cm each turn that shelf into a four drawer bank with nothing to assemble. It also carries the most customer ratings in our shortlist, at 98.
If the problem is a narrow gap rather than a shelf, the Giantex 3 Drawers Storage Cart is 19.1cm wide, 57.2cm tall and rolls, so it disappears between a washing machine and a wall and pulls out when you need it. And if you just want somewhere for pens, chargers and tape without spending much, the UNITED 4-Tiers White Drawer Desktop Cabinet is the cheapest of our seven picks and needs no assembly.
Plastic drawers compared at a glance
Widths, depths and heights are the external dimensions from each Australian listing, so you can measure your gap and match it. Where a pick is a multi-pack, the size is for one box.
We limited the shortlist to plastic drawer units and towers in the three to seven drawer range, so lidded tubs, open trolleys and in-drawer trays were left out.
We read every listing for the numbers that decide a purchase: external width, depth, height and drawer count, and rejected units that did not publish them.
Star ratings and review counts come from the Australian listings, and prices were checked fresh on the day this guide was written.
We favoured units that name their plastic, because polypropylene behaves very differently to unnamed brittle styrene when a loaded drawer is yanked.
Best plastic drawers overall for a wardrobe: HOTOOLME 4 Pack Stackable Wardrobe Storage Organiser
Most Australian first homes have a wardrobe with one long shelf above the rail and a metre of dead air above that. Folded clothes go up there in a pile, the pile collapses, and within a month nobody opens the shelf. The HOTOOLME set fixes that with four identical plastic boxes, each 42.8cm deep, 33cm wide and 24cm tall, with a pull-out front so you can open one without lifting the three above it.
The job most Australians are actually trying to solve is a bare wardrobe shelf with a collapsing pile of folded clothes on it, and four stackable pull-out boxes at 42.8 x 33 x 24cm each fix that with nothing to assemble. Because they stack rather than sit in a frame, you decide the layout, split them across rooms, or pack them flat when you move. It also carries 98 ratings at 4.4 stars, the largest body of Australian feedback of any pick in this guide.

Because they stack rather than sit in a frame, you decide the shape. Two high and two wide fits a standard wardrobe shelf. Four high, at 96cm, works as a freestanding column under hanging shirts, though a stack that tall wants an anti-tip strap in a room a child uses. That flexibility is why a multi-pack beats a single tower here, and why it is the pick we would buy first for a rental: nothing to assemble, nothing left behind.
The four-box set weighs 3kg, which tells you two things: it is light enough to reposition one-handed, and thin-walled enough that these are for clothes, linen and soft goods rather than books or tools. The white finish matters more than it sounds, because clear plastic shows every crumpled t-shirt and a wardrobe of clear boxes reads messier than the same clothes on an open shelf. With 98 ratings at 4.4 stars it also has the largest body of Australian feedback of any pick here.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
The pull-out front is a tray inside an open box, not a runner on a rail, so a heavily loaded box drags rather than glides. The 24cm height is generous for folded t-shirts and mean for a doona, so this is not the pick for bulky bedding. And with no frame holding the stack together, a tall column can be nudged out of line by a knee.
Best narrow plastic drawers for a laundry gap: Giantex 3 Drawers Storage Cart
The gap beside a washing machine, a fridge or a vanity is usually between 18cm and 25cm, and almost nothing is built for it. The Giantex 3 Drawers Storage Cart is 19.1cm wide, 41.9cm deep and 57.2cm tall, so it slides into that gap, uses the full depth of the cabinetry beside it, and stops under most bench heights.

The gap beside a washing machine, fridge or vanity is usually between 18cm and 25cm and almost nothing is built for it. At 19.1cm wide, 41.9cm deep and 57.2cm tall this cart slides into that gap, uses the full depth of the cabinetry beside it and stops under most bench heights. It is moulded from polypropylene, which handles damp far better than the brittle plastics used in cheaper units, and Giantex publishes the width to a decimal place, which is exactly what you need when you are buying to a measurement.

It is moulded from polypropylene, which is the plastic you want in a laundry: it shrugs off damp, does not craze the way cheap styrene does, and stays flexible enough that a drawer front bends instead of snapping under a wet-weight load. Giantex names it on the listing, which plenty of sellers here do not bother to do.
Three drawers over 57cm means deep drawers rather than shallow trays, so it takes detergent bottles standing up, folded tea towels or a full set of cleaning sprays. The cart weighs 4.99kg empty and rolls, which is the point: pull it out to get behind it, push it back after. At 4.3 stars across 34 ratings it sits in the lower half, but for a unit whose whole reason to exist is a measurement, we care more that Giantex publishes the width to a decimal place.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
It arrives flat and needs assembling, a quiet twenty minutes with the frame clips. The castors are small: fine on tile and floorboards, bogged down on thick carpet. And a 19.1cm wide unit standing 57cm tall is tippy with the top drawer out, so put the heaviest things low.
Best cheap plastic drawers for a desk: UNITED 4-Tiers White Drawer Desktop Cabinet
Not every drawer problem is a wardrobe problem. Sometimes it is a desk buried under pens, cables and school permission slips, and the fix costs less than a takeaway. The UNITED 4-Tiers White Drawer Desktop Cabinet is the cheapest of our seven picks: 29.5cm wide, 24.5cm deep, 18cm tall, four shallow drawers.

Not every drawer problem is a wardrobe problem. Sometimes it is a desk buried under pens, cables and permission slips, and this is the cheapest of our seven picks. Four shallow drawers over 29.5 x 24.5 x 18cm is exactly right for small flat things, it needs no assembly, and its multicoloured drawer fronts, the only ones among our picks, make colour coding a kids craft corner easy. Thirteen ratings is a thin sample, which is why it is the budget option rather than the overall pick.

Four shallow drawers is exactly right for small flat things. A4 paper does not fit, but pens, batteries, chargers, tape, keys, receipts and the endless little parts that come with flat-pack furniture all do. At 0.73kg it moves with one hand and lives happily inside a cupboard rather than taking bench space.
It needs no assembly, which at this price is not a given. It is a white cabinet with multicoloured drawer fronts, the only pick here with that finish, which sounds trivial until you are buying for a kids craft corner, where colour coding the drawers is the difference between a system that survives a week and one that does not. At 4.7 stars across 13 ratings it is the highest-rated of our three headline picks, on a much smaller sample, which is why it is the budget option.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
Thirteen ratings is a thin evidence base next to the 98 behind our top pick, so read the score as a hint rather than a verdict. The drawers are shallow by design, which rules out anything bulky, and a 0.73kg cabinet slides when you pull a drawer hard, so it wants a wall behind it rather than open bench.
Really Useful Box is one of the few names here Australians recognise from classrooms, craft rooms and offices. The Slimline Storage Tower is four 6 litre drawers in a clear frame, 23.5cm wide, 30cm deep and 78.5cm tall.
Four 6 litre drawers in a single moulded clear frame, 23.5cm wide, 30cm deep and 78.5cm tall. The drawers are deep rather than tray-shallow, so wool, cables and paint bottles stand up in them, and at 4.75kg empty the wall thickness is where the weight has gone. No assembly, castors listed as an option, and a top surface just under bench height that doubles as a small side table.

Drawer depth is what sets it apart. Most towers this narrow give you shallow trays; these are 6 litre drawers, deep enough for wool, cables or paint bottles standing up. At 78.5cm the top lands just below bench height, so it doubles as a side table beside a desk.
The unit weighs 4.75kg empty, heavy for a tower this size and a good sign, because wall thickness is where that weight goes. The frame is a single moulded piece rather than clip-together tiers, so nothing racks sideways when a drawer is out, the maker lists castors as an option, and no assembly is required. Clear drawers are the trade-off: in a craft room, seeing which drawer holds the glue is the point, and in a bedroom it is visual noise.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
You pay for the brand and the moulding here rather than raw capacity. And 78.5cm tall on a 23.5cm footprint is a narrow object that wants a wall behind it, not the middle of a room.
Best plastic drawers for under-bed storage: Traderight Group Storage Drawers Set
Under-bed space is the biggest unused volume in most Australian bedrooms, and the reason nobody uses it well is that lidded tubs must be dragged fully out and unlidded to get at anything. The Traderight Group Storage Drawers Set is three stackable units, each 43.5cm wide, 34.5cm deep and only 21cm tall, with a pull-out drawer front instead of a lid.

Three stackable transparent units, each 43.5cm wide, 34.5cm deep and only 21cm tall, with a pull-out drawer front instead of a lid. Twenty-one centimetres is the number that matters, because most Australian bed bases leave between 22cm and 30cm of clearance, so you open the drawer from the side of the bed without dragging the unit out. Stack all three and you have a 63cm bank for the base of a wardrobe.

Twenty-one centimetres is the number that matters. Most Australian bed bases leave between 22cm and 30cm of clearance, so a 21cm unit slides under and you open the drawer from the side of the bed without moving anything. Stack all three instead and you have a 63cm bank for the base of a wardrobe.
The drawers are transparent, which for stored goods is the right call: you hunt the winter doona once every six months and you want to see it without opening three drawers. There is no assembly, and being a three pack you get three units of that size for one price. At 4.5 stars across 47 ratings it has a solid review base, and Traderight is an Australian seller brand, which usually means the dimensions were measured for this market rather than converted from a US listing.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
It is the dearest of our seven picks, though you are buying three units rather than one. A 43.5cm wide drawer with no runner needs a level floor to slide nicely, and shallow drawers under a bed collect dust on top no matter what.
Best plastic drawers for the most storage in the least floor space: Giantex 5-Drawer Rolling Organizer Unit
If the constraint is floor area rather than budget, this is the pick. The Giantex 5-Drawer Rolling Organizer Unit is 19cm wide and 42cm deep, the same footprint as the three drawer cart above, but it stands 91cm tall and fits five drawers into that column. It is the tallest of our picks.

Five drawers on a 19cm by 42cm footprint is about 0.08 square metres of floor for a full set of drawers, which is the ratio that makes a small laundry workable. Slide it beside the washing machine and you get separate drawers for detergent, cloths, spare toiletries and the odds and ends that otherwise live on top of the dryer.
Like the smaller Giantex cart it is polypropylene with a plastic frame, and it has built-in wheels rather than screw-in castors, so there is one less part to lose. It weighs 5.5kg empty. At 4.9 stars it is the highest-rated of our picks, on 18 ratings, so read that as a small but consistently happy group rather than a settled verdict. At 91cm it also stands taller than the 686mm threshold in Australia's toppling furniture information standard for clothing storage units and bookcases, so load it bottom heavy and, in a room a child uses, anchor it.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
It needs assembly, and a 91cm column of clip-together tiers takes longer to build than the three drawer version. Eighteen ratings is a small sample at this price. And built-in wheels are convenient until you want it to stay put.
Best small plastic drawers for a bench or desk: Iris Ohyama DC-A5 Storage Tower
Iris Ohyama is a Japanese maker with a long line in this sort of moulded plastic storage, and the DC-A5 is its small desk tower: three drawers in a black frame, 19cm wide, 26cm deep, 22cm tall, weighing 0.69kg. It is the smallest and lightest of our picks.
The smallest and lightest of our picks at 19 x 26 x 22cm and 0.69kg, with three shallow drawers in a black frame and transparent fronts. The finish is why you would choose it over the UNITED cabinet: it looks deliberate on a bedside table or bathroom bench rather than like school stationery. At 4.0 stars across 57 ratings it is the lowest-rated pick here, largely because buyers expect more capacity than A5 gives.
$54.28
Amazon.com.au price as of 05:54 pm AEST — subject to change

The reason to choose it over the UNITED cabinet is the finish. Where most desk drawers at this scale are a bright plastic that reads as school stationery, the DC-A5 pairs a black frame with transparent drawers and moulded inlaid handles, so it looks deliberate on a bedside table or a bathroom bench. Three drawers inside 22cm of height means each is genuinely shallow, so this is a small-items unit: skincare, makeup, medication, cables, jewellery. There is no assembly.
The rating is the honest weak spot. At 4.0 stars across 57 ratings it is the lowest-rated of our seven picks, on a real sample rather than noise, and what that score reflects is buyers expecting a lot of capacity from a small tower. Buy it knowing the dimensions and it is a well-made little unit.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
It is the lowest-rated pick here, which is worth taking seriously, and small enough that clearing a bench takes two of them. The transparent drawers also show clutter, so it works best holding tidy things like skincare bottles rather than a jumble of cables.
Which plastic drawers should you buy?
Match the situation to the pick rather than the drawer count, because a four drawer unit that is 5cm too wide is worth nothing.
Your situation
Our pick
Your wardrobe has one bare shelf and a pile of folded clothes
Start with external dimensions, not litres. Capacity in litres tells you nothing about whether a unit fits between a wall and a bed base, and it is the number sellers lead with because it always sounds generous. Measure the gap, subtract two centimetres, and shop to that width.
Then look at what the plastic is. Polypropylene, usually written PP on a listing, is the good outcome: tough, slightly flexible, happy in damp, and it will not go brittle in a hot roof cavity or a sun-facing laundry. Polystyrene and unnamed brittle plastics are cheaper and crack at the drawer front. Two of our picks name polypropylene outright.
Drawer depth decides what a unit can hold. Trays of 5cm to 8cm are for stationery. Drawers of 15cm to 20cm take folded clothes, and over 20cm starts to take bedding. A five drawer tower of shallow trays is worse than a three drawer unit of deep ones if the job is jumpers.
Think about frame versus stack. A frame keeps everything aligned and lets you pull a middle drawer without disturbing the rest; separate stacking boxes are more flexible, split across rooms and pack flat for a move. Renters who move often are usually better served by stackable boxes, and a permanent laundry setup wants a framed tower.
Last, decide clear versus solid deliberately, because it is the choice people most often regret. Clear drawers earn their keep for stored goods and craft supplies where finding things fast matters; solid white or black looks calmer in a bedroom. And if the real problem is the inside of a drawer you already have, a set of inserts from our drawer organiser guide will do more for less.
How do you look after plastic drawers?
Plastic storage lasts years if you respect two limits: weight and sun. Overload a drawer and the front bows until it no longer slides square. Leave a unit in direct summer sun through a window and the plastic yellows and eventually goes brittle.
Load bottom heavy. The ACCC's advice on toppling furniture is to keep heavy items low and to secure furniture to the wall or floor, and Australia's mandatory information standard for toppling furniture, in effect since 4 May 2025, applies to clothing storage units and bookcases 686mm or more in height. Two of our picks stand above that line as single units: the Giantex 5-drawer at 91cm and the Really Useful Box tower at 78.5cm. In a room a child uses, an anti-tip strap kit takes ten minutes. The ACCC also advises against putting heavy items, or things that attract children, on top of furniture.
Keep damp out. Australian laundries and garages swing between humid summers and condensation-prone winters. Leave a two centimetre gap behind any unit against an external wall, never put anything away slightly damp, and drop a moisture absorber in the bottom drawer of anything holding linen long term.
Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Skip methylated spirits, acetone and abrasive creams, because solvents craze polypropylene and polystyrene and leave a fogged surface that never comes back.
You'll also want
These are the pieces that make a plastic drawer setup work rather than just exist.
Worth saying plainly: Kmart and Big W house brands undercut Amazon Australia on plastic drawers, so if the lowest price is the whole brief, start there. Buy from this list when the decision turns on capacity you can measure, on wheels for pulling a unit out of a gap, or on knowing that a drawer like this does not lock, which rules it out for anything valuable. On price the two to start with here are the UNITED desktop cabinet and the Giantex three drawer cart.
The SYKIARIOL rolling storage cart is a popular eight drawer unit with a wooden top and strong reviews. It missed our list because the listing gives the frame material as metal, which makes it a rolling trolley rather than a plastic drawer unit, and eight drawers sits outside the three to seven range this guide covers. The Akro-Mils hardware and craft cabinet is heavily reviewed, but it is a small-parts cabinet sized for screws, beads and tackle: superb in a workshop, completely wrong for clothes.
The Homz four drawer tower and the Sterilite five drawer desktop unit are American staples with big review counts behind them, and both are decent. Australian pricing on imported plastic storage is unpredictable because you are shipping air, and both landed above the equivalent locally supplied units on our shortlist without offering more capacity. The IRIS USA six drawer rolling cart is close to a premium version of our Giantex picks but asks a lot more for a comparable column. If your problem is really lidded tubs rather than drawers, our storage boxes guide covers that shape.
Plastic drawers FAQ
What are the best plastic storage drawers in Australia?
For a wardrobe, stackable pull-out boxes like the HOTOOLME four pack are the best answer, because they turn a bare shelf into a four drawer bank with nothing to assemble. For a narrow gap beside a washing machine, a 19cm wide rolling cart such as the Giantex three drawer unit works better. Match the unit to the space you are filling rather than to the drawer count.
Are plastic drawers strong enough for clothes?
Yes, for folded clothes, linen and soft goods: jumpers, t-shirts, activewear, sheets and towels are all fine. What plastic drawers are not built for is dense weight such as books, tools or tinned goods, because the drawer front bows and stops sliding square. Fill one to about two thirds and keep the heaviest contents in the lowest drawer.
What size plastic drawers fit under an Australian bed?
Most Australian bed bases leave between 22cm and 30cm of clearance underneath, so a drawer unit around 21cm tall slides under with room to spare. Measure from the floor to the underside of the bed frame at its lowest point, not at the corner, because centre rails often hang lower.
Do tall plastic drawer towers need to be anchored to the wall?
The ACCC's guidance on toppling furniture is that the best way to prevent furniture tipping is to secure it to the wall or floor, and Australia's mandatory information standard for toppling furniture, in effect since 4 May 2025, covers clothing storage units and bookcases 686mm or more in height. A tall plastic tower used for clothes falls in that territory, so in any room a child uses, anchor it and keep the heaviest items in the bottom drawer.
Is polypropylene better than other plastics for storage drawers?
Polypropylene, usually shown as PP on a listing, is the plastic you want. It is tough, slightly flexible, and it copes with damp and heat far better than the brittle styrene used in the cheapest units, which cracks at the drawer front. If a listing names no plastic at all, treat it as a budget unit and load it accordingly.
